The Phil presents Flavors of Spain & Italy

2017-10-28 19:30 2017-10-28 19:30 America/New_York The Phil presents Flavors of Spain & Italy Like the twists and turns of a country road, this program treats us to the splendors of Spain and Italy. Felix Mendelssogn so loved his time in Italy it inspired his colorful Symphony No. 4, capturing the sights, sounds and variety of an Italian holiday: joyous and bathed in history. Similarly, Spanish composer Joaquin Rodrigo's evocaive Concierto de Aranjuez, with its flamenco-like rhythm, composed for classical guitar and orchestra, captures the fragrance of magnolias, the singing of birds and the gushing of fountains in this Spanish palace garden. Rossini's Overture to The Barber of Seville adds a touch of whimsy and playfulness to this rich, flavorful evening.
